Parana TRIM SULFA ws
1 g of the drug contains:
Sulfadimidine 200 mg
Trimethoprim 40 mg
Dosage:
Orally, dissolved in drinking water or milk substitutes according to the following
doses:
Calves: (up to 3 months old) – 0.5 g. per 10-20 kg of body weight for 3-5 days
Poultry (chickens-broilers and replacement chickens) – 1-1.25 g. per 10
kg of body weight or 0.5 kg of the powder per 1000 liters of the drinking water on
a daily basis for 4-7 days.In severe cases in poultry, the doses can be increased to
0.75 kg of the powder per 1000 liters of drinking water on daily basis for 4-7 days
Use it with intervals of 24 hours.
The solution for poultry is prepared in a ratio of at least10 liters of water for 0.5
kg of the powder, and for this it’s necessary to pour 10 liters of drinking water
into a capacity and continuously adding small portions of the powder while stirring.
Stir until complete powder dissolution. For a more rapid dissolution of the powder – use warm drinking water. The prepared concentrate (drinking water:powder–
0.5:10) should be immediately added to the required amount of drinking water in
accordance with the daily giving amount of water for different age categories of
birds. Prepare a fresh solution on a daily basis
Description:
TRIM SULFA is a combined preparation consisting of sulfadimidine and trimethoprim. The action is caused by the action of the abovementioned components, which
together reveal synergic effect, and as a result the activity of the preparation is
significantly higher than the activity of individually taken components.
Sulfadimidine and trimethoprim in combination acts bactericidally against most
76 77
gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms, including: Staphylococcus
spp., Streptococcus spp., Salmonella spp., E. coli, Pasteurella spp., Serpulina
hyodysenteriae, Corynebacterium spp., Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae, Eimeria spp.,
Proteus spp., Listeria spp., Clostridium spp.
The mechanism of action is consistent inhibition of enzymes involved in the
synthesis of folic acid, thereby inhibiting the synthesis of thymidine bacterial cell.
Sulfadimidine blocks the conversion of para-aminobenzoic acid into dihydrofolic
and trimethoprim blocks the conversion of dihydrofolic acid into tetrahydrofolic by
inhibition of dihydrofolate reductase.
Sulfadimidine and trimethoprim are well distributed throughout the body and cross
the placenta. During the inflammation of the meninges, the concentration of the
active ingredients can reach 50% of the concentration in the serum.
Sulfadimidine and trimethoprim are excreted through the kidneys by glomerular
filtration and tubular secretion, is metabolized in the liver. Sulfadimidine mainly
is acetylated and conjugated with glucuronic acid, trimethoprim is metabolized to
oxide and hydroxylated metabolites.
Indications:
Treatment of calves, lambs and kid-goats under the age of 3 months, pigs, dogs,
cats and poultry (chickens-broilers and replacement chickens) against diseases
of the alimentary canal, respiratory and urinary systems, as well as the complications after viral illnesses, postoperative and posttraumatic infections caused by
pathogens which are sensitive to trimethoprim and sulfadimidine.
Contra-Indication:
Hypersensitivity to sulfadimidine and trimethoprim.
Do not apply to animals with impaired liver and kidney function.
Do not use in laying hens producing eggs for human consumption.
Do not use in ruminants with well-developed proventriculus.
Whithdrawal Period:
Animals: 7 days.
Poultry: 2 days.
Storage:
Dry, dark, inaccessible to children place at temperature from 5°c to 25°c.
